President Donald Trump defended his upcoming effort to protect Silicon Valley products from foreign countries copying their technology.

“We want to have our jewels. Those are our great jewels,” Donald Trump said about Silicon Valley products. “We have to protect these companies, we can’t let people steal this technology.”

Trump commented on the issue in response to reports from Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal that his administration wanted to limit Chinese investments in American technology.

Trump disputed that he would exclusively target Chinese investment, but any country that was using investment as a strategy to copy American technology.

“We have the greatest technology in the world, people copy it and they steal it. We have the great scientists we have the great brains as we have to protect that,” he said.

Trump confirmed that his goal could be achieved by scrutinizing investments with CIFUS (Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States).
