North Carolina Substitute Teacher Fired After Being Caught on Camera Body Slamming Student

Per North Carolina’s MyFox8, a Western Guilford Middle School substitute teacher, identified by WXII as 49-year-old Paul Stennett, was fired this week after a student’s mother uploaded a video of her son, Jose Escudero, being body slammed.

Escudero told MyFox8 that Stennett confiscated a box of chocolates on Valentine’s Day and threw it in the sink. When the 12-year-old student went to retrieve his box of chocolates after class, the substitute teacher attempted to grab it from his backpack and then gripped his shirt and pinned him against the wall, Escudero said.

The cell phone video shows the moment the altercation escalated and Escudero was slammed to the ground.

Stennett was fired for what Guilford County Schools call “disturbing and unacceptable” behavior.

“We reported the behavior to law enforcement and will no longer employ this person as a substitute teacher or in any other GCS position,” Guilford County Schools Chief of Staff Nora Carr stated.
