With the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey set for release on Valentine’s Day, condom manufacturer Trojan decided to take advantage of the buzz by releasing a new ad campaign.
Titled 50 Shades of Pleasure, the video depicts a couple speaking with a relationship counselor and sharing their failed endeavor to spice up their love life by using the Fifty Shades book series.
“You know, believe it or not, there was a time when I could come home from work not thinking ‘hey, I should pop in and buy a ball gag,’” says a young woman.
“Nobody should walk away from sex with like a strained jaw,” her partner states.
The video then demonstrates the pair’s quandary with S&M intimacy, which includes arguing over “safe words,” fighting over sex swings, and the man’s failed attempt to be mysterious by dressing up as a ninja.
“I just wanted it to be like the book; I just wanted him to take charge,” the woman says. Her partner then admits: “I didn’t read the book, so I just kind of winged it.”
Their counselor then directs them to the conclusion that they simply need to be themselves, before a voice-over pitches Trojan Lubricants and Vibrations.
According to TheWrap, as part of the campaign, the company surveyed Americans and they found 50 percent of those questioned feel their sex lives need to be spiced up.
