An infant onesie is causing a frenzy on social media, after consumers ridiculed apparel company Wry Baby for what they deemed as “fat shaming” of babies.
Ms. Magazine senior editor Michele Kort condemned the company for “projecting fat awareness” on toddlers with one particular outfit which reads, “I Hate My Thighs.”
“There’s something icky about projecting fat awareness on babies,” Kort wrote in a blog piece. “The Wry Baby website deems this ‘a tiny statement regarding self-image.’ Hahaha. Actually, it’s a pretty large statement for a 10-pounder to be making – a harbinger of things to come later in a child’s life, especially if that child is a girl.”
Social media users didn’t take the issue lightly either, as many turned to Twitter to voice their opinions regarding the “demeaning” piece of fabric.

Wry Baby has since replaced the controversial onesie with a new one that says, “Love for my Legrolls,” and issued a public statement on behalf of its company.
“We couldn’t agree more about body image,” Wry baby posted in the comments section of the Ms. blog. “That’s why we made an ironic joke about it. Obviously no baby would or should hate their thighs!”
