A New York Democrat has tapped actress and comedienne Amy Schumer to headline a campaign fundraiser event for her race for Congress.

Touting Schumer’s attacks on Justice Brett Kavanaugh and her opposition to the Second Amendment, House candidate Liuba Grechen Shirley announced that Schumer is set to host a comedy fundraiser as Shirley works to oust Republican Congressman Peter King in New York’s 2nd Congressional District, The Hill reported.

“Amy Schumer isn’t just a brilliant comedian — she’s also a fierce activist,” Shirley said on Monday. “From protesting Kavanaugh in Washington, D.C., to campaigning for common-sense gun control, Amy puts it all on the line to demand more from our elected officials — and I’m proud she’s joining our grassroots campaign to flip Long Island blue.”

The Trainwreck star is set to host the $100 per seat event with the ticket fees going to Shirley’s campaign.

It remains to be seen how much Schumer’s support with help the Democrat as, according to some polls, Liuba Grechen Shirley is unlikely to topple incumbent Pete King from his 2nd District seat.

Meanwhile, Schumer used her pregnancy announcement to endorse a slew of Democrats ahead of the midterm elections on Monday.
Taking to social media, Schumer endorsed Democrats Kirsten Gillibrand, Andrew Gillum, and Beto O’Rourke.

The 37-year-old actress has been in the news a lot over the last month. Besides her participation in protests against Justice Brett Kavanaugh in Washington D.C., Schumer announced that she would not accept a role in any commercial that would air during the Super Bowl because national anthem supporter Colin Kaepernick has still not been signed by any NFL team. Schumer also announced she is pregnant with her first child with husband, chef Chris Fischer.
