A WWII veteran living in a nursing home in the United Kingdom was given a pillow with a photo of his late wife on it, according to an emotional Facebook video posted Saturday.
“We know our residents are missing their loved ones at this time but let’s not forget those who sadly aren’t here with us anymore. Today, one of our lovely staff Kia Mariah Tobin gave Ken a pillow with his beloved wife on who we also cared for. Safe to say we all shed a tear with Ken today, the caption read on the Facebook video.
The video has more than 394,000 views, and shows the 94-year-old war veteran hugging the 17-year-old caregiver after she presented him with the thoughtful gift.
“Ada was the most wonderful, caring wife,” Ken Benbow, who moved to Thistleton after his wife died in August at age 93, told the BBC.
The Navy veteran slept by her photo every night, and would speak to the photo every night as well after his wife died.
Tobin, Benbow’s caretaker, was moved by his devotion to his late wife, and decided to print Ada’s image on a pillow.
“Now he can take the pillow to bed with him and give it a good squeeze,” says Tobin.
Benbow said he is grateful for the gift that he can hold “every night” in his arms.
“We were married for 71 years and it broke my heart when she left me, but now I’ve got her every night in my arms,” says Benbow.
