TEL AVIV – Nearly half of the Palestinian terrorists responsible for attacks or attempted attacks against Israeli civilians during the ongoing so-called cycle of violence are aged 20 or less, and more than one in 10 were carried out by women, according to statistics released Monday by the Shin Bet security service.

Nine of the attackers were Arab Israelis and 36 came from Jerusalem, where 16% of the attacks have taken place.

The report showed that two-thirds of the recent spate of attacks, which began in October, were carried out in the West Bank with 40% of the terrorists responsible for those attacks coming from the Hebron region. Another 25% came from Ramallah.

According to the figures, 21 of the attackers were in Israel illegally at the time they carried out attacks.

Another two assailants had legal permits to be in the country, including the terrorist who perpetrated the attack that killed two people in Tel Aviv in November.

A Palestinian with a work permit also carried out a stabbing attack in the industrial area where he was employed.

The Shin Bet said its statistics only include “significant attacks.”

Since the report was published on Wednesday, an additional five attacks have been carried out.

At least 30 Israelis and around 170 Palestinians have been killed since the start of the current round of violence. While some Palestinians died during clashes and riots, the vast majority were killed while attacking or attempting to attack Israelis.
