TEL AVIV – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah movement posted a photoshopped picture of Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman superimposed on an image of the Islamic State terrorist known as Jihadi John.

The image, posted on the website of Fatah’s Information and Culture Commission on Sunday and first reported by Israeli NGO Palestinian Media Watch, shows “Liberman” holding a serrated knife with an  enraged expression.

The slogan accompanying the image reads, “LibermanISIS.” See below.

The original shot features Jihadi John – a British Arab whose real name is Mohammed Emwazi – and was used in beheading videos released by the terror group.

Fatah and the Palestinian Authority have in the past made comparisons between Israel and the Islamic State. In September of last year, the same website published a cartoon depicting Israel as an Islamic State executioner bedecked in a black robe with the word “Judaization” emblazoned on it and featuring a Star of David. The executioner is shown with an ax about to decapitate a Palestinian whose head has been replaced with the image of the Dome of the Rock, the Muslim shrine located on Jerusalem’s Temple Mount.

The latest round of reconciliation talks between Fatah and rival group Hamas have broken down after Hamas accused Fatah of backtracking on previous commitments. The talks, which began in the Qatari capital of Doha on Wednesday, took a turn on Saturday with the Gaza-based terror group charging that Fatah had “no political will to achieve reconciliation,” according to Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri.

Fatah denied the charges and its spokesman, Osama al-Qawasmi, said that the Doha meetings proved that Hamas is “not ready yet for national unity and political partnership.”

The two groups, which comprise the largest Palestinian political factions, have remained in conflict since Hamas took power in the Gaza Strip in 2006.
