White House: Edits of Benghazi Talking Points Were 'Stylistic Not Substantive'

Speaking on May 8, White House spokesman Jay Carney said edits made to Benghazi talking points were “stylistic and not substantive.”

Said Carney:

The fact that there are inputs is always the case in a process like this. Edits made by anyone at the White House were stylistic and not substantive. They corrected the description of the building…from consulate to diplomatic facility. Ultimately this has all been discussed and reviewed and provided in enormous levels of detail by the administration to congressional investigators. 

Many have disagreed with the Carney’s claims, pointing to claims that the talking points had references to Al Qaeda in them at one time–references which the CIA allegedly deleted.

Carney says such claims about the edits are part of an attempt “to politicize the talking points…to chase after what isn’t the substance here.”
