Florida Absentee Vote Gives Edge to GOP

There’s plenty of good news for the Romney campaign in Florida. Of the more than 327,000 Floridians who have already voted, 44% are Republicans and 40% are Democrats. Another factor favoring Republicans is that, of the absentee votes requested, 42% are Republicans and 40% are Democrats.

This lead for the Republicans is quite significant because, in 2008, 23% of Democrats requested absentee ballots while only 13% of Republicans did. The Republican National Committee stated:

Not only are the Democrats merely shifting their early voters to become absentee voters (thus diluting their historical advantage in early voting), but the voters they are shifting are those who are already the most likely to vote this year.
