Sarah Palin: Scalise Defenders Like Those Who Gave Obama Pass for Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers Ties

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin blasted those who have defended House Majority Whip Steve Scalise’s (R-LA) associations with top allies of former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, liking them to those who defended President Barack Obama’s more recent and “immoral” ties to Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers.

“Defense of this (last decade) racist action is disgusting and wrong, as is defense of the even more recent immoral actions of our President’s with any association he embraced with the racist Jeremiah Wright and the anti-American domestic terrorist Bill Ayers,” Palin wrote in a Friday Facebook post. “I’ll add to Levin’s list: Do political ‘leaders’ think Americans are so stupid we don’t recognize the despicable double standard here, and that we’re so weakly complacent that we’ll put up with this?”

Scalise has come under fire for accepting an invite more than a decade ago from a top aide to former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke to speak at a gathering at a hotel where white supremacists were holding their conference.

She also pasted conservative scholar and talk radio Mark Levin’s Facebook post in which Levin asked Scalise:

1. Why did you attend any meeting at the behest of your neighbor – a known, long-time David Duke operator and confidant, Kenny Knight?

2. You know David Duke is a vile racist and anti-Semite, right?

3. If so, why did you have any association at all with Knight, a lowlife, let alone and apparently a mildly friendly one?

4. It has been reported that this sicko donated $1000 to your campaign. Amazingly, even now you apparently haven’t returned it. Why?

5. I have to ask, Mr. Scalise, are you an idiot?

Levin also noted that though nobody is saying “Scalise is a racist,” the “idiot defense is not good enough for the #3 Republican House leader. There’s just too much at stake and it’s not too much to expect much better from the Republican Party”:

The truth is if Scalise was a Tea Party member of Congress serving in leadership, Boehner and his media cheerleaders like Rove, et al, would have forced his resignation by now, not mounted a vigorous “defense.”

More to the point, Scalise is a Boehner lieutenant. He’s an unprincipled operator who, among other things, did grave damage to the formerly conservative Republican Study Committee and supported Boehner’s efforts to purge conservatives from key committee assignments. He’s yet another example of what’s wrong with the GOP and Washington. The American people are sick of it, and those who defend such awful establishment leadership are not doing either the GOP or the nation any favors. Scalise is another setback.

Though, as Levin noted, Republican leaders have used the race card against conservative and Tea Partiers and warned against the dangers of candidates who have not been properly vetted, they have thrown their full support behind Scalise. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and House Majority Leader Kevin McCarty (R-CA) have publicly supported and defended Scalise in recent days while conservatives like Levin and Hannity have called on Boehner to be ousted.
