Nearly four dozen conservative groups wrote to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-UT) urging the Senate to repeal Obamacare’s trillion dollars in taxes.
Recent reports suggest that the Senate may delay or eliminate only some of Obamacare’s taxes. The coalition of 47 groups suggests that this a mistake. They said, “True repeal of Obamacare means repealing the Obamacare taxes and the Senate should resist the urge to deprive taxpayers of relief in order to pay for higher spending.”
The conservative network argues that retaining some of Obamacare’s trillion dollars’ worth of taxes hurts middle-class families and small businesses, raises the cost of health care, and reduces access to care as well.
The conservative coalition writes that repealing some of Obamacare’s taxes limits economic growth. The conservatives wrote:
Obamacare taxes directly suppress economic growth. The best example of this is the 3.8 percent so-called Net Investment Income Investment Tax on capital gains and dividends… A related tax hike is the 0.9 percent Medicare surtax on wages and self-employment income.
The conservative coalition argued that true repeal of Obamacare must contain the repeal of its many taxes and that any final Senate bill should include at least as many taxes as the House-passed Americans Heath Care Act (AHCA).
The alliance said, “True repeal of Obamacare means repealing the Obamacare taxes and the Senate should resist the urge to deprive taxpayers of relief to pay for higher spending. We commend you on your stance to repeal these Obamacare taxes and urge any final package accelerate or at least maintain the House-passed tax reductions.”
