President Donald Trump said that Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore should concede his race against the winner, Democrat Doug Jones.

“I think he should,” Trump told reporters when asked if he believed Moore should concede. “He tried. I want to support the person running.”

Moore has not conceded the race, as the campaign is waiting for the official vote count from Alabama officials. He did not deliver a concession speech on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Moore released a campaign statement to thank his wife and supporters for standing behind him, calling it a “very close race”:

Trump has moved on since the election, even calling Doug Jones to congratulate him and welcoming him to the White House.

“I said Roy Moore will not be able to win the General Election. I was right!” Trump wrote on Wednesday after it was clear that Jones had won. “Roy worked hard but the deck was stacked against him!”
