Wife of Florida Democratic Congressman Arrested for Alleged ‘Disorderly Intoxication’
Orange County Jail

Police say that the wife of a Florida Democratic congressman has been arrested and charged with alleged “disorderly intoxication.”

Rep. Darren Soto (D-FL) told the Orlando Sentinel that his wife had too much to drink at Disney Springs on Sunday and recently stopped taking medication for depression on doctor’s orders.

The Florida Democrat added that his wife was arrested because she got into “an argumentative state” with her mother in public.

“Yesterday, she drank too much and reached an argumentative state with a family member, which led to arrest,’’ Soto said. “She deeply regrets her actions and takes full responsibility for them. Amanda and her physician will be reviewing her mental health treatment, immediately.’’ the congressman said.

Deputies booked Amanda Lee Soto, 33, into the Orange County Jail late Sunday night on a second-degree misdemeanor charge of disorderly intoxication.

“It should be noted that I attempted to calm Amanda numerous times from her agitated state and that even while attempting to speak with her she continued to utter that her husband is a congressman, therefore, she can do whatever she wants,” Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy Cory Heller stated in his arrest report.

Deputies released Soto from custody early Monday morning on bond. If convicted, Amanda Soto could face a prison sentence of up to one year in county jail, according to Florida law.
