Rush Limbaugh said Wednesday that Democrats are focused on blaming Trump rather than putting a stop to mass shootings.
Limbaugh said, “The Republicans are signaling a willingness to talk to [Democrats]” about gun control but “they don’t want any part of it.” He added, “[The Democrats] don’t want any part to a solution to any of these problems.”
He suggested Democrats are afraid Trump would get credit for any reduction in shooting incidents. He noted that is ironic, given the fact that the gun controls that would be front and center in a bipartisan discussion are those being pushed by Democrats.
Limbaugh said the Democrats are the ones putting forth, “all this rhetoric about guns and the President said, ‘Okay, I’ll talk to you about it,’ and he’s doing this with full knowledge that they are not going to take him up on it. He knows they are not serious about it.”
Limbaugh then spoke directly to listeners who “may be on the fence” politically, asking them to “wake up and realize [the Democrats] are not serious about this. They love these circumstances…they love the opportunity to continue to make the case against Republicans because all this is about is getting rid of Trump.”
Less than a week after the February 14, 2018, Parkland high school shooting Limbaugh stressed that Democrats were focused on politicization of attacks rather than school safety. He suggested that Democrats respond to such shootings by going “political” and “[making] tracks for the NRA … and for the gun lobby.” All the while, children sit in schools day after day that are as wide open and unprotected as they were two decades ago.
