Mark Smith, attorney and former adviser on law enforcement to President-elect Donald Trump, told Breitbart News Daily SiriusXM host Matt Boyle, “Law enforcement for the last eight years has had the perception, the sense, that the Department of Justice and this President and many government officials did not have their back.”

The two also discussed the sad news that 135 police officers were killed in the line of duty this year, as well as how the Obama administration handled police-involved shootings, including that of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri.

“I think one critical thing that’s going to change is that Donald Trump respects law enforcement,” said Smith.

“I think the most important thing Donald Trump is going to try to do,” continued Smith, “is not going to try to impose his will and the Department of Justice’s will on local law enforcement across the country. He’s going to let local law enforcement and local people and local judges handle local business and not be dictated to by the bureaucrats in D.C.”

Breitbart News Daily airs on SiriusXM Patriot 125 weekdays from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Eastern.
