Rams Coach Not Afraid to Cut Michael Sam if Not Good Enough

St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher said he would not hesitate to cut Michael Sam if he is not good enough to make the team.

“[W]e picked him within the process and we’re going to reduce this roster within the process,” Fisher said, according to ProFootballTalk. “So I don’t see that being an issue.”

The Rams drafted Sam in the seventh round and making him the first openly gay player to be drafted. But many players drafted in the third day, especially in the seventh round, often do not make NFL teams.

If Sam does not make the Rams solely due to his on-field performance, the media backlash may be a distraction for the team as the mainstream press will harass the team and likely insinuate that Sam did not make the team because the team discriminated against him for his sexual orientation or players were not ready for a gay player in the locker room.
