Jerry Remy's Son Pleads Guilty to Murder

Jared Remy, son of Boston Red Sox color commentator Jerry Remy, pled guilty to murder on Monday in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. He received a life sentence.

Remy stabbed girlfriend Jennifer Martel to death last August in front of her four-year-old daughter in Waltham. Neighbors tried unsuccessfully to remove the hulking man from his victim. Remy, who had a series of troubled interactions with Martel and other women, was fired by the Boston Red Sox as a security guard in 2008 in connection to a steroid investigation. While incarcerated awaiting trial, he attacked a pedophile with hot coffee and his fists in an effort to gain credibility among other inmates.

Jerry Remy has become a Boston institution as a broadcaster after an unremarkable career as a second baseman for the team in the 1970s and ’80s. In addition to serving as a color commentator for televised Red Sox games since 1988, he has authored a series of Red Sox-related children’s books and opened several area eateries.
