Lights Out: ESPN Studio Goes Dark 'Much Like Brazil'

A massive thunderstorm in Rio de Janeiro knocked out ESPN’s power just after Germany shellshocked Brazil by scoring five goals in 18 minutes in the first half.

“Our studio has gone dark much like Brazil,” host Mike Tirico said.

He and Alexi Lalas ended up doing the halftime broadcast from a closet that had been used to film podcasts.

Germany pummeled Brazil 7-1 in the semifinal match and will face the winner of the Argentina-Netherlands semifinal, which takes place on Wednesday, on Sunday for the title.

ESPN’s studio got back its power for the post-game show.
