Sacked, Then Mocked: Money Gesture Thrown in Johnny Manziel's Face

Welcome to the NFL.

Ryan Kerrigan sacked Johnny Manziel in the first quarter of the Cleveland-Washington preseason game. Redskins teammate Brian Orakpo added insult to the setback by rubbing his thumbs and fingers together in the iconic “money” gesture that Manziel has made his own. Now NFL pass rushers will be looking to make the symbol theirs.

The ridicule may stem less from welcoming a rookie into the pro ranks than from an intercollegiate grudge. Orakpo played college ball at Texas; Manziel, A&M.

Manziel responded to the relentless mocking in the second half. After throwing an incomplete pass, he unrolled a middle finger in the direction of the Redskins sideline. Washington won the Monday Night Football preseason contest 24-23.
