Arrest Made in Auburn Player's Murder

Police in Auburn, Alabama, have arrested 22-year-old Markale Deandra Hart for the murder of redshirt freshman Auburn University football player Jakell Lenard Mitchell. The authorities hold the Camp Hill, Alabama, man on $150,000 bail.

Hart allegedly shot Mitchell repeatedly as the running back argued with a third man early Sunday morning.

“He just started shooting,” the player’s girlfriend told the Associated Press. “Jakell fell on the ground and he tried to get back up and run, and then he fell again. He started shooting at Jakell again while Jakell was on the ground.”

The killing took place at an off-campus apartment complex the served as the scene of the murder of two Auburn football players, and a third man, in 2012. In response to the deaths two-and-a-half years ago, the proprietors of University Heights changed its name to “Tiger Lodge.” Apparently, calling an apartment complex by a different name does not repel murderers.
