Cartel gunmen murdered a municipal police director from the Mexican city of Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, while driving into the state capital on Tuesday. The attack occurred at approximately 2 p.m. as he drove his duty vehicle along the highway into the city of Chihuahua accompanied by a bodyguard who gunmen also murdered.

MONTERREY, Nuevo Leon – A top lieutenant with Mexico’s Gulf Cartel failed in his attempt to bribe federal police officers who caught him with drugs and weapons in his vehicle. The arrest occurred as he tried to reach the Texas border with a large quantity of cocaine.

The son of one of the top leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel testified that former Mexican President Vicente Fox’s chief bodyguard worked for them. The bodyguard was one of several top military figures that received large cash bribes in exchange for favors and information.

A former Mexican border state governor who has been linked to drug cartels and is a current U.S. fugitive is one step closer to standing in front of a federal judge in Texas. The former governor lost his request for an injunction he had filed to stop his extradition to the U.S.

Mexican law enforcement agents arrested a former top official with the Tamaulipas government in the border city of Matamoros on state embezzlement charges. That official is also a fugitive in Texas where he faces multiple charges including money laundering and bank fraud.

A recent article by National Public Radio aimed at portraying Mexico’s immigration enforcement and checkpoints in a positive light overlooked allegations of corruption against Mexican federal agencies and did not speak with law enforcement officials.
