MONTERREY, Nuevo Leon — Two border states joined their police forces to track down and arrest a regional Zeta boss allegedly extorting farmers in the south central part of Tamaulipas.

Running a faction of Los Zetas in Xicotencatl, Tamaulipas, Miguel Angel Carrillo Garcia was allegedly extorting the local farming industry. Tamaulipas authorities obtained a warrant for his arrest, however, Carrillo went into hiding in neighboring Nuevo Leon.

The two states established communications and special investigation units with the Nuevo Leon Attorney General’s Office and tracked down Carrillo to a middle-class neighborhood in the municipality of Garcia, near the Monterrey metropolitan area. Authorities set up a surveillance operation at Carrillo’s safe house and arrested him as he was walking outside.

Under a large security detail, Nuevo Leon authorities moved Carrillo to their headquarters where investigators photographed him and carried out a series of medical exams to confirm identity. Breitbart Texas has obtained exclusive photographs of the moment when state investigators transferred Carrillo into the state building where authorities prepared his extradition to Tamaulipas.

Various factions of Los Zetas Cartel in Tamaulipas have resorted to extorting regular businesses and even large national corporations by demanding regular fees for letting them stay open in their cities. Earlier this year, a milk distribution center for the national milk company, LALA, in Ciudad Mante closed its operations after repeated extortion by Los Zetas. Several other large companies reported similar efforts in Tamaulipas.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by Tony Aranda from Nuevo León.
