Sitcom Beats Obama’s Amnesty Announcement on Spanish TV

President Obama’s amnesty announcement was beaten in the ratings by a television sitcom. Still, the President drew nearly seven million viewers to Spanish language TV and brought some of the biggest ratings those stations have ever received.

Univision, for one, saw a +49% increase in its 8 p.m. hour, bringing the network 5.055 million viewers. Telemundo had 1.8 million viewers and a +38% increase from the previous night’s viewership.

In fact, Univison came in second for the hour only to CBS’s hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory, which topped the TV rating list at 8 p.m.

Once President Obama’s message was over, though, both Spanish language networks lost the big bump and fell back to normal numbers.
