LA City Council Waives Fees for TV Pilot Producers
In its effort to woo back the perpetually wayward Hollywood executives who seek financial benefits outside Los Angeles, the LA City Council has now waived fees for producers filming television pilots within city limits. Mayor Eric Garcetti was a moving force behind the measure. Councilmember Paul Krekorian stated, “When we support TV pilots being filmed here in Los Angeles, there's a very good chance that when that series is picked up, the television series will be produced in Los Angeles as well. Then you have millions and millions of dollars spent on those productions, which are spent right here in Los Angeles instead of in Vancouver or New York."
Hollywood apparently merits special benefits. Residents of Los Angeles, however, who are also fleeing in droves, still pay elevated taxes and fees. Los Angeles has lost some 8% of all pilots in the last year, and 30% of all pilots since 2006-2007.
