'Seinfeld,' '80s Faves Highlight Nostalgic Super Bowl Commercials

Today’s Hollywood is scared to death to take chances, witness the stream of reboots, sequels and prequels fed to the public.

The Super Bowl commercials took a similarly safe approach.

Some of the biggest spots reunited viewers with old friends, from George Costanza to an ’80s era Hulk Hogan.

The Seinfeld reunion found Jerry and George (Jerry Seinfeld, Jason Alexander) plotting their Super Bowl viewing options at their favorite diner. Even Newman (Wayne Kramer) paid the guys a visit.

Radio Shack brought back Twisted Sister, Mary Lou Retton and Alf for their ’80s themed spot, a nostalgic trip through the Reagan era that tried to tie the chain’s future to the past.

Comfort food is common come Super Bowl Sunday. Even Bruno Mars had to share the stage with veteran rockers like the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Nostalgia remains a safe source of inspiration for the creative minds working today.
