Hollywood Stars Host Fundraiser Soiree for Wendy Davis
Democratic State Sen. Wendy Davis is running to be the Governor of Texas--but she has been spending an increasingly substantial amount of time fundraising out of the state. On May 22, Hollywood A-listers will join Davis for a glitzy event in Santa Monica, California to raise money for her gubernatorial race.
Hollywood superstars J.J. Abrams, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg are hosting the soiree, according to ABC News. The event, which will reportedly be held on the roof of Abram's production company Bad Robot, costs guests $1,000 at the door.
The Dallas Morning News reported that a guests' status at the event depends on how much he or she donates to Davis' cause. A $10,000 contribution allows a party-goer to become a co-host; a $25,000 donation constitutes host status.
Apparently, all money collected goes directly towards Davis' gubernatorial campaign or Battleground Texas, a collective effort to turn the Lone Star State blue.
Davis has had to rely heavily on funding from left-wing fundraisers in blue states. Breitbart News reported in March that 25 percent of Davis' money has come from outside the state. $3.8 million of the $15 million she has raised so far was given by supporters from outside the Lone Star State.
Davis appears to have no limits, in terms of fundraising partnerships.
Earlier this month, the state senator spent time raising money in Chicago. One fundraising event she attended was hosted by Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky called "Ultimate Women's Power Lunch." Schakowsky is known for her far-left views, which represent the antithesis of Texas' business-friendly, low tax environment.
