China Smuggles in Vietnamese Child Brides to Bridge Gender Imbalance

To meet China’s growing demand for marriage-age women, a human trafficking industry has sprung up to smuggle young girls across the border from Vietnam into China to be sold as wives.

According to recent reports, the villages on the border of Vietnam and China have become a hunting ground for human traffickers, where girls as young as 13 are trapped, drugged or lured under false pretenses and then smuggled across the border. Chinese men are willing to pay upwards of $3,000 for a Vietnamese bride because the cultural similarities between the two countries make the women especially desirable.

As fallout from more than 35 years of its iniquitous one-child (now “two-child”) policy, China has found itself with the greatest gender imbalance of any country in the world. Sex-selective abortions have created a situation where by the year 2020 eligible males of marrying age will outnumber their female counterparts by more than 30 million.

The dearth of marriage-age women has created a situation of desperation among young Chinese men, who now readily resort to importing women from neighboring countries like Vietnam. Since young Vietnamese women command a high price as brides, unscrupulous human traffickers have stepped in to fill the demand by kidnapping girls and forcibly bring them into China.

In its 2015 report, the Congressional-Executive Commission on China (CECC) said that China’s coercive population control program, now known as the “two-child policy,” continued to employ torture methods such as forced abortion and sterilization despite a widespread public outcry.

Many provincial laws in China explicitly instruct officials to forcibly carry out abortions for “illegal” pregnancies, with no requirement for consent.

Since the majority of Chinese couples prefer having a son, many have opted to abort their baby girls in the hope that the next child will be a boy. This practice has radically skewed China’s gender ratio, leaving an enormous deficiency of women vis-à-vis men.

“Sex-selective abortion is the ultimate violence against females,” Reggie Littlejohn, President of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, told Breitbart News. “Aborting a baby just because she is a girl is the ultimate act of gender discrimination.”

A 2015 report from Geneva on global violence against women called gender-based abortion “one of the most shocking crimes against humanity.”

The United Nations has estimated that some 200 million women are “demographically missing” in the world today due to sex-selective abortion. This figure is greater than all the casualties of all the wars of the twentieth century combined.

According to Littlejohn, this is the real “war on women,” despite the fact that it is studiously ignored by many groups supposedly interested in women’s rights. This systematic elimination of human beings based on sex constitutes “gendercide,” Littlejohn said.

Recent efforts to legislate against sex-selective abortion in America have met with fierce resistance from the abortion industry, with groups like abortion-giant Planned Parenthood, NARAL and other abortion-rights organizations vigorously campaigning against it.
