Police in St. Petersburg, Florida, arrived on the scene of a reported home invasion to find one of the suspects lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

WFLA reports that tenants were in their dwelling when a masked man kicked in their door and two suspects allegedly made entry. As the suspects ran inside, one of the female tenants opened fire, striking one of them repeatedly.

Bay News 9 reports that police arrived to find the wounded suspect lying in the street, “screaming from his [wounds].”

One of the male tenants said, “It’s not every day you’d expect somebody to just kick in your door and try to hurt you and take your belongings.” He praised the actions of the armed woman, saying, “She was collected enough to keep us all from getting hurt. You know that’s really what I’m thankful for, is that not everybody is ready to jump under stress.”

The wounded suspect, 25-year-old Randy Stanley Jr., was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
