Kansas Concealed Carry Applications Up Record-Breaking 54 Percent in 2013

While gun sales were smashing records throughout the country in 2013, Kansans were smashing state records for concealed carry permit applications.

According to The Witchita Eagle, Kansas has seen a record number of concealed carry applications four years in a row. In 2013 they not only broke the record set in 2012 but surpassed it by 54 percent.

There were 24,181 applications for concealed carry permits filed in 2013. More than half of these – 14,250 – were filed during four months of the year. These four months coincided with the gun control push by Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV).

Applications slowed to a normal pace after gun control was defeated at the federal level. However, Kansas Rifle Association president Patricia Stoneking expects them to take off at record pace again “if we start seeing another big push out of Washington on gun control and registration.”
