Lena Dunham's $3.7 Million Advice Tome, 'Not That Kind of Girl,' Set for October Release

Readers will have to wait until October to find out if Girls star Lena Dunham’s advice was worth the million-plus dollar price tag.

Random House won a bidding war in 2012 for the rights to publish Dunham’s advice/memoir, and now the author has revealed both the cover art and the book’s release date–Oct. 7, 2014.

Dunham, star of the low-rated HBO comedy, shared the news about Not That Kind of Girl via her Instagram account today.

Taking its inspiration from feminist field guides like Helen Gurley Brown’s Having It All, Not That Kind of Girl bills itself as an irreverent hybrid of memoir and advice book, in which Dunham “tells you what she’s ‘learned,'” according to the book’s strategically scare-quoted subtitle.

Dunham’s HBO series follows the travails of four single, 20-something women. The series is in its third season but a fourth is already in the works.
