Rick Perry Endorses Mitch McConnell

Texas Governor Rick Perry endorsed the re-election of United States Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) on Saturday night, according to the Washington Times

During a dinner in Kentucky at Murry State University, Perry said, “I love the number six. Sam Houston was 6 foot 6 inches tall. And Mitch McConnell is going to be in his sixth term as United States senator… The future of America is inextricably intertwined with Kentucky and how these elections come out this time.” The Texas governor stressed that McConnell will continue to fearlessly stand up for Conservative values if re-elected.

McConnell is running against Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes and fellow Republican Matt Bevin.

McConnell addressed the dinner guests after Perry spoke. He made a point to slam Lundergan, whom he referred to as “face of the status quo.” He refrained from referencing Bevin.

Tea Party groups in Kentucky have galvanized around Bevin, a businessman in the state. He was not given a speaking slot at the Murry State University dinner, according to the Houston Chronicle

Outside of the event, Bevin reportedly told a McConnell supporter, “I’m running for U.S. Senate against Mitch McConnell. I’m the guy you’re not supposed to know about.”
