McALLEN, Texas—Online publications continue to erroneously hype a violent Mexican cartel by claiming that it is the most powerful such organization in the world, even though the top security agencies in the U.S. and Mexico have already dismissed those claims.

The most recent erroneous assertion was made by the online publication Ozy, which alleged that the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion was more dangerous and powerful than the Sinaloa Federation.

In their piece titled “Forget El Chapo –Meet El Mencho And His Bloodthirsty Cartel,” Ozy claims that the sheer ferocity and low profile of CJNG’s boss Nemesio Oseguera make him a more formidable foe than Sinaloa Federations top bosses Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera, Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, and Juan Jose “El Azul” Esparragoza.

Guzman Loera,  listed by Forbes as a billionaire in the past, most recently became a world-wide sensation after escaping from a maximum security prison in Mexico through an almost mile-long tunnel equipped with rails, motorcycles, and oxygen tanks, Breitbart Texas previously reported.

The claims made by Ozy echo a series of stories that came out earlier this year when various news outlets, including the Washington Post, made that same claim. At the time the CJNG had been making headlines for leading a series of fierce gunfights in Mexico.

It was during that time that Breitbart Texas reported at length about the history and the recent savage acts by the CJNG. In the article, Breitbart Texas asserted that the CJNG had been an enforcement wing of the Sinaloa Federation that had turned on their masters and grown exponentially. But their mighty firepower was not enough to make them the most powerful cartel in the world.

The most damming dismissal of WaPo’s claim which applies directly to Ozy’s claim came at the hands of Jack Reily, one of the top administrators with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

In an article published by Mexico’s Proceso, Reily is quoted as describing the Sinaloa Federation as being in an entirely different league than the CJNG.

“The organization that he created (Sinaloa Federation) is the most powerful because it has lasted throughout the history of international organized crime,” Riley said to Proceso.

While the CJNG has been hyped for their economic strength and firepower, Riley said they don’t have the power or reach of the Sinaloa Federation.

“The Sinaloa Federation can be harmed in Mexico but in the U.S. they keep their contacts and their business and routes are well established,” the DEA agent is

According to the top DEA official, the reach of the Sinaloa group is the main reason why the U.S. is currently undergoing through a heroin flood.

“According to our assessments, the Sinaloa Cartel is the absolute owner of the heroin trade,” Riley is quoted in the article.

Mexico’s top security Official Tomas Zeron has also dismissed the claims that the CJNG is the most powerful cartel in the world.

The claim was dismissed last June when Zeron who is Mexico’s National Security Commissioner was holding a press conference and he was asked if the CJNG was more powerful than the Sinaloa Federation, Mexico’s Proceso reported.

At the time Zeron said that he could not make that assertion about the CJNG’s dimensions or power but that nonetheless they were powerful cartel with a presence in Jalisco Guanajuato, Colima, and Michoacán.
