MCALLEN, Texas — The union tasked with representing U.S. Border Patrol agents has called out the U.S Customs and Border Protection Commissioner over his failure in leadership.
On Tuesday, CBP Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske testified before the House Appropriations Committee where he delivered the controversial statement “If they don’t like it, they should quit.” in response to the low morale in his agency.
Kerlikowske also touted the effectiveness of the agency in securing the border and handling the number if illegal aliens entering the country.
The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) has issued a statement condemning the commissioner and his testimony which they claim is filled with half truths and one lie.
“The commissioner and I have serious disagreements on border security,” said NBPC President Brandon Judd in a prepared statement about Kerlikowske’s testimony. “He believes in amnesty programs like DAPA, DACA, and ‘catch and release’ are the right approach. However, we have seen that these programs only add to the crisis, as illegal immigrants believe they are going to be allowed to stay.”
According to Judd, agents do not turn over every person they arrest to U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE). “Under the prosecutorial discretion guidelines, we walk a great deal many of illegal aliens out the front door without them even being interviewed by ICE.”
The illegal aliens walked out the front door at times do not even received a notice to appear or go before a judge, the NBPC president said.
“We simply let them go and pretend they were never in our custody,” he said in the prepared statement.
Judd presented his testimony before the U.S. Congress where he spoke about another immigration crisis taking place in South Texas as the numbers of minors and families who are entering the country illegally through the Rio Grande Valley continue to rise.
According to Judd, Kerlikowske lied since in 2015 the agency broke the record figures that they had set in 2014.
“We were right but it was contradictory to the story they have been trying to sell to the American people,” he said.
