Stephanopoulos: Obama Facing 'Real Popularity Problems' on Foreign Policy

On Tuesday’s “Good Morning America” on ABC, host George Stephanopoulos acknowledged that President Barack Obama is facing public opinion obstacles with his foreign policy, in particular regarding the ISIS threat in northern Iraq.

“The president is not prepared to announce he is ready with air strikes,” Stephanopoulos said. “And it comes with a time he is facing popularity problems. Fifty-six percent of the country disapproving of how the president is handling foreign policy.”

Network chief White House correspondent Jon Karl elaborated on Stephanopoulos’ claim and explained that he has come across as “too cautious.”

“And the single-biggest factor in that, is a majority say the president has been too cautious in responding to this threat,” Karl said. “That’s why he’s giving the speech. He’s not going to order air strikes on Syria yet. He is going to make the case that he has a strong approach, a strategy for taking on this group.”
