Dem. Chief Deputy Whip Kildee on Impeachment Support: ‘The Long View of History’ Won’t Be ‘Complicated’

On Tuesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “Situation Room,” House Democratic Chief Deputy Whip Dan Kildee (D-MI) discussed his support for impeachment proceedings against President Trump and stated that “the long view of history is not going to be so complicated.”

Kildee explained what caused him to support impeachment proceedings by saying, “Well, it was a careful review of the Mueller report. It was spending a weekend with my grandchildren and asking myself the question, in 15 or 20 years how am I going to be able to answer the question of what I did to stop a president who ignores the rule of law, ignores the Constitution? And the idea that I would explain it away by saying, well, you know, the political calculations back in 2019 were that this wasn’t necessarily going to be good or bad for the Democratic Party. Look, the long view of history is not going to be so complicated. We take a step back, and we see that we have a president who is ignoring the law and is ignoring the Constitution and the framers anticipated that we use the tools necessary to protect the Constitution and protect the rule of law, and that’s what I feel like we have to do.”
