Microsoft had hoped that its upcoming Halo series would be the first of many projects born from its Hollywood division. Instead, the series represents one of the the final gasps of the company’s Hollywood section.
The LA Times reports the computer giant will be closing most of that Calif.-based production facility, part of an expected 14,000 jobs reduction.
Launched in 2012 with big expectations, Xbox Entertainment Studios will wind down operations in the coming months. Nancy Tellem, the former CBS President and Jordan Levin, a well-regarded programmer, will see through some current projects in development before exiting.
That means Halo will see the light of day in some format, but other shows meant for the Xbox platform won’t come to fruition. The documentary series Signal to Noise also is expected to survive the company’s latest cutbacks.
