The first trailer for the new HBO-Vice documentary collaboration Fixing the System, in which President Obama visits a federal prison and meets with several of the inmates, debuted online Friday.

Breitbart News reported in July that President Obama would become the first sitting president to visit a federal prison when he took a trip to the El Reno federal penitentiary in Oklahoma.

In the first trailer for the program, Obama can be seen visiting with several inmates as he discusses criminal justice reform.

“There was a strong political incentive, I think, to continually be tough on drugs,” Obama says. “The things just kept on getting ratcheted up.”

“We think it’s somehow normal for black youth, Latino youth, to somehow be going through the system in this way,” the president adds. “It’s not normal.”

Vice Media founder Shane Smith will host the special program.

“There’s an emerging consensus in this country — on both the right and the left — that the way we treat criminal offenders is utterly broken and weakening our society in profound ways,” Smith said in a statement when the project was announced. “Visiting El Reno with President Obama — the first-ever visit to a federal prison by a sitting president — will give our viewers a firsthand look into how the president is thinking about this problem, from the policy level down to one on one conversations with the men and women living this reality. It’s going to be fascinating.”

Fixing the System premieres September 27 on HBO.
