Porn Without Borders is 'Key EU Benefit' Says European People's Party President

The President of the largest political grouping in the European Parliament has praised the EU for allowing young Frenchmen to access porn movies in Germany.

Joseph Daul, president of the European People’s Party, which incorporates centre-right parties from most EU nations, made his comments in an interview with the French-language local paper Les Dernières Nouvelles d’Alsace.

When he was asked how to convince younger voters to take part in the forthcoming European elections, Mr Daul responded:

“I tell them that at their age, when I was 18, when I wanted to go to Kehl [a German town directly across the river from Strasbourg] to see porno movies that were banned in France, you had to wait two-and-a-half hours to get through customs.

“You’d get to the cinema and the film was already finished.

“And one out of every couple of times I’d realise I’d forgotten to bring deutschmarks!

“When you explain it that way to youngsters they understand straight away what Europe means.”

Mr Daul grew up in the Alsace region of France, near to the German border.

It is unknown how his comments will go down with some of the more socially conservative members of his political grouping, including the Polish Civic Platform party, the Hungarian Fidesz party and Spain’s People’s Party.

Britain’s Conservative Party was also formerly a member until it withdrew due to differences over the EPP’s federalist ideals.
