'Big Money' Protester Occupies Intersection Near Paltrow-Obama Fundraiser

BRENTWOOD, Los Angeles — A protester from the Occupy group 99Rise took to a busy Los Angeles intersection on Thursday in opposition to big money in politics. He “occupied” a spot just a few blocks away from Gwyneth Paltrow’s home, where the actress was hosting President Barack Obama at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser.

A man whom Breitbart News identified as David DeGraw sat down in the middle of Sunset Boulevard, in a busy Brentwood intersection rife with traffic, sporting shades and a t-shirt with the 99Rise logo on it. Eventually, he was escorted from the street by approximately five police officers. Local Fox News affiliate in Los Angeles KTLA originally reported the story.

DeGraw posted the following tweet to his account:

#GetMoneyOut!! @99rise Strikes Again at Obama/DNC Fundraiser ~ #TwoPartyOligarchy ~

Several other tweets from the 99Rise account show protesters from the group picketing President Obama and Paltrow, referring to the up to $32,000-per-plate dinner-fundraiser as a “plutocracy”:

$32K/person fundraiser for @BarackObama? That’s plutocracy, not democracy. #99Rise takes direct action 2 #GetMoneyOut

A few days before the approximately 200-person event, at which Julia Roberts and Bradley Whitford were also present, street art posters appeared throughout Paltrow’s neighborhood depicting her as an “Obama Drone.

Paltrow was reportedly so taken aback by Obama that she said she was turning the microphone over to him because “you’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly.” She then gushed to him about being one of his biggest fans, “if not the biggest.”

And then came the sales pitch: “It would be wonderful if we were able to give this man all of the power that he needs to pass the things that he needs to pass,” she said.
