'Deeply Concerned' Obama Warns Russia Against Ukraine Intervention

On February 28th Obama delivered a “hastily arranged” statement warning Russia against military intervention in Ukraine.

According to Yahoo News, Obama said, “We are deeply concerned by reports of military movements taken by the Russian federation inside of the Ukraine.” He said the “[U.S.] will stand with the international community in affirming that there will be costs for any military intervention in Ukraine.”

On February 26th Breitbart News reported Putin ordered “a test of combat readiness for troops stationed in a region that touches Ukraine’s northern border.” On February 27th Breitbart News reported armed men had seized the parliament and local government offices in the Ukrainian region of Crimea and raised the Russian flag.

Obama said he is watching the events unfold and “any violation of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity” would be “deeply destabilizing.” He said the U.S. believes “the Ukrainian people deserve the opportunity to determine their own future.”
