Dems Push Bill to Ban Stalkers, Domestic Abusers from Buying Guns

Over two dozen Democrat Representatives led by California Rep. Mike Thompson (D) are pushing a bill to ban individuals convicted of stalking or domestic abuse from buying guns.

The bill follows Elliot Rodger’s Santa Barbara stabbing spree in which he knifed three persons to death then shot three persons to death as well.

According to Politico, the bill would also ban gun purchases by “outpatients who have been involuntarily committed… if a court has deemed them dangerous.”

As of now Thompson’s bill has no Republican support, but he is “currently shopping the bill with GOP members” hoping some will sign on. Even as he pushes the new gun control measure, Thompson admits “stricter legislation… may not prevent gun attacks.”
