Purpose of China’s Population Control Policy Is ‘Terror,’ Critics Say

“The Chinese Communist Party will never end coercive population control, because coercive population is keeping it in place,” prominent women’s rights activist Reggie Littlejohn tells Breitbart News.

Xinhua News Agency reported on October 29 that China was “abandoning its decades-long one-child policy,” but human rights activists explain that the Communist Party will never abandon its coercive population policy because it is central to maintaining the Party’s despotic control over the lives of Chinese citizens.

Ms. Littlejohn, president and founder of Women’s Rights without Frontiers, has been harshly critical of China’s “misleading” announcement, insisting that in reality nothing has changed, since “terror is the purpose of the Policy.”

Littlejohn says the Chinese Communist Party will never abolish coercive population control, because it has become a necessary means to social control, “masquerading as population control.”

In fact, China’s “family planning” policies go hand-in-hand with the absolute control exercised by the Communist party over virtually every sector of public and private life, from religion, to education to trade unions and voluntary associations.

The birthrate in China has fallen well below replacement levels, with a national average of just 1.2 children per woman, significantly beneath the replacement level of 2.1. Thirty seven years of a brutally enforced one-child per family policy have wreaked demographic disaster that some claim may be irrecoverable.

“Even if the family-planning policy were terminated today,” said Chinese author and researcher Yi Fuxian, “it would be too late to solve our rapidly ageing population, the drastic shrinkage of the labour force and the gaping hole in social-security funds that the country has already begun struggling with.”

Since continuing any form of coercive population control—including a two-child policy—makes no demographic sense, Littlejohn proposes that there are deeper motives, namely, keeping citizens in terror. Women live in constant fear of forced abortion, she said, some of which “have been so violent that the women themselves have died along with their full term babies.”

Moreover, victims of forced abortion at times have succumbed to mental illness and China has the highest female suicide rate in the world, which many tie to China’s strict population control policies.

The intended result, Littlejohn told Breitbart, is a “strengthened police state with an intimidated populace unable to offer effective resistance.”
