Police in Greer, South Carolina, are looking for a woman suspected of shoplifting and trying to pepper spray a loss prevention officer who confronted her in a Target store.

Authorities said the woman was seen on July 2 trying to put articles of clothing and a pair of sunglasses into her purse at the Greer Target, but when the store’s loss prevention officer confronted and then tried to guide her to the front of the store, she pulled out a can of pepper spray and tried to spray him in the face, according to WYFF News 4.

During the attempted pepper spraying, the woman broke free of the officer and ran out the store.

The woman left behind a purse, Target officials said, which contained $231 of merchandise.

She appeared to have driven off in a white Dodge Nitro SUV.

The suspect was described as a black woman, between 18 and 25, with long black hair. She stands about 5-foot-two and weighs up to 155 pounds. She was wearing tennis shoes, light blue, ripped jeans, a very low midriff tank top, and a black bra.

Police have released a series of surveillance photos of the suspect and are asking for anyone who can identify her to contact Officer Barnett at abarnett@cityofgreer.org or call the Greer Criminal Investigative Division at 864-877-7906.
