Kobe Settles Memorabilia Case with Parents, Gets Public Apology

Kobe Bryant and his parents settled a memorabilia dispute on Monday that resulted in his parents publicly apologizing to their son.

According to ESPN, Bryant and his parents agreed on a settlement that allows Bryant’s parents to sell six items. Goldin Auctions, which will auction the memorabilia, believes it can still get more than $500,000 for those items.

Bryant’s parents apologized in a statement:

“We regret our actions and statements related to the Kobe Bryant auction memorabilia …. We apologize for any misunderstanding and unintended pain we have caused our son and appreciate the financial support he has provided over the years. We also apologize to Goldin Auctions for their inadvertent involvement in this matter and thank them for their assistance.

As financial markets become more unstable, more people are investing in sports memorabilia, and Bryant and his parents had been in a dispute over whether Bryant gave his parents permission to sell memorabilia from his high school years and early years with the Lakers. Bryant and his parents have not had the rosiest of relationships since he joined the Lakers out of Lower Merion High School.

Bryant’s parents, it should be noted, did not attend Kobe’s wedding to Vanessa Laine because they reportedly did not approve of the marriage.
