Fox Sports 1 Head on A La Carte Cable: A 'Fantasy' that 'Doesn't Work'

Two days before Fox Sports 1 officially launches to challenge ESPN, Fox Sports 1 COO Randy Freer said a la carte cable “is a fantasy” and that “it doesn’t work.” His comments also came the day after the network set up deals with Time Warner Cable, DirecTV and Dish.

He made the comments at the Variety Sports Entertainment Summit on Thursday.

Freer reportedly said the bundled cable was underestimated and may have been aware of that sports networks would cost consumers considerably more if they were unbundled. For instance, Breitbart News reported that ESPN would cost consumers around $30 a month if unbundled.

News Corp. COO Chase Carey has also made similar comments about bundled cable, according to the publication.
