Fans in San Francisco rained a cascade of boos down upon Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Josh Hader showing that Giants fans are not ready to accept his apology for the racist tweets he wrote as a teenager.

Thursday night’s game was the first time Hader took the mound in an away game since he apologized for tweets he made seven years ago when he was a 17-year-old kid, Sporting News reported.

“I heard a lot,” Hader later said of the boos. “I can’t let my mistakes distract me from doing my job. I don’t like what I said back then and obviously regret what came out. We live and learn as human beings. We’re not perfect. You learn from what you do and become a better person from it.

“I can’t control what people are going to say to me, obviously,” Hader added. “I made mistakes in my earlier years. I’ve got to focus on what I’ve got to do, and that’s get outs and help this team win.”

The reception in San Francisco was in marked contrast to how fans back in Milwaukee greeted Hader right after the tweets controversy erupted. During the July 21 game, Brewer fans gave their hurler a standing ovation when he took the mound against the Dodgers.

Giants fans were doubly depressed since the Brewers beat the west coasters in a 7-5 final.

The controversy erupted last week when the old tweets made by a teenaged Hader resurfaced. Hader used the N-word in several of the posts. The pitcher quickly apologized for the tweets and it seems Major League Baseball is not interested in taking any actions over the old tweets beyond insisting that Hader undergo sensitivity training.
