David Gregory Wants Obama to Get More Credit for Saving the Economy

NBC’s David Gregory is annoyed at America for not giving President Obama more credit for saving the economy.

During last weekend’s Meet the Press, Gregory insisted that Obama just isn’t getting enough credit for an economy that Gregory feels is “getting better.” Paul Bedard calls Gregory’s claim the “mainstream media scream” of the week.

During the February 2 broadcast, Gregory wondered why Americans just can’t grasp Obama’s great success. In a discussion with White House chief of staff Denis McDonough, Gregory said, “Do you ever wonder why the President doesn’t get more credit for an economy that is rebounding? What’s the disconnect there?”

Also, replying to Tom Brokaw’s questioning about the “decade of pessimism about our direction,” Gregory said, “Well, it’s so interesting because, look, the economy is getting better.”

“That’s what this President had to do: he had to make the economy better. Yet he’s not getting a lot of credit for it,” Gregory said.

The American people seem to disagree with Gregory’s rosy opinion of Obama’s saving of the economy – which does fit his complaint that Obama is not getting credit – with Gallup finding late last year that a low 35 percent approved of Obama’s handling of the economy. That is down from 42 percent last June.

Only days ago, Gallup also released a poll of America’s economic confidence and found that it had declined, dropping to negative 23 percent since earlier in January. The poll found on January 26, 38 percent of respondents thought America’s economic condition was poor.

Gregory didn’t address the fact that in 2014 we have the lowest participation rate in the labor force since 1978, a fact that even Politifact rates as true. Millions of Americans have just given up looking for jobs in this Obama economy.
