Hillary Didn't Know Huma Would Speak at Weiner Press Conference

Hillary Clinton did not know that Huma Abedin, her longtime top aide whom she has called a “second daughter,” was going to stand by disgraced former Rep. and New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner and speak during a press conference on Tuesday.

The hastily scheduled press conference was a result of more details about Weiner’s raunchy sexting life that came to light hours before.

One source told CNN, “She didn’t know before she saw it on TV.” Another said, “Hillary Clinton was not involved.”

Weiner’s press conference fell on Monica Lewinsky’s 40th birthday, and many in the journalism and political communities have observed that Abedin is following exactly in her mentor’s footsteps.

At the press conference, Abedin, in what was believed to be her first public remarks on her husband’s campaign trail, said of Weiner, “What I want to say is, I love him, I have forgiven him, I believe in him, and as I have said from the beginning, we are moving forward.”
