Tom Cruise's Sci-Fi Saga 'Oblivion' Takes No. 1 Spot at Box Office

LOS ANGELES, April 21 (UPI)–“Oblivion,” starring Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman, took the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office with $38.152 million in gross receipts.

“42,” the Jackie Robinson story with Chadwick Boseman and Harrison Ford, stayed strong in its second week with $18.025 million, good for the No. 2 spot.

All studio estimates of gross North American box office receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

“The Croods,” an animated film, was third with $9.5 million; “Scary Movie 5” fourth with $6.296 million; “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” fifth with $5.775 million; “The Place Beyond the Pines” sixth with $4.746 million; “Olympus Has Fallen” seventh with $4.5 million; “Evil Dead (2013)” eighth with $4.1 million; “Jurassic Park 3D” ninth with $4.008 million.

And “Oz The Great and Powerful” was 10th with $3.048 million.
